Many people think a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist would be the best option for their child's mental health needs when, in reality, there are many mental health professionals who are trained to work specifically with children with mental health concerns.

Psychologist

Have a doctoral degree and are trained to evaluate a person's mental health. They can make diagnoses related to mental health disorders and can provide individual and family therapy.

Counselors, Therapists and Clinicians

Used interchangeably these professionals are trained to evaluate a person's mental health and use therapeutic techniques based on specific training programs. Working with one can lead to symptom reduction and better ways of thinking, feeling, and living. 

Clinical Social Workers

Trained to evaluate individuals mental health and use therapeutic techniques. They are also trained in case management and advocacy services.

Psychiatrist

A trained and licensed medical doctor who has completed psychiatric training. They are trained to diagnose, prescribe, and monitor medication and provide therapy in an individual, family, and group setting.
